Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my dog?

It’s a really long day for a dog. Unless you have a cool and safe space for your dog to rest, do not bring your dog. Dogs must be on a leash.

How is parking?

There is a big parking lot at the Visitor Center where you can easily park.

Can I bring my own food for the day?

Yes, we encourage you to bring your own snacks and meals. While you are training for the challenge, you will be able to test different foods and find out which foods best serve you. We recommend bringing a cooler with drinks and meals. You’ll be able to stop whenever you want to grab some fuel. We will have snacks, water, and electrolytes available, but no meals.

Where can I stay the night before the event if I live far away?

There are hotels and rentals in Mount Airy, NC and Winston-Salem, NC that are close.

What is the terrain like?

The trail has diverse plant and wildlife, well marked trails, and lots of gradual elevation changes. It can be a little bit rocky, so wear appropriate footwear and be mindful of where you are stepping. The elevation gain is 1,482 feet.
